Hinds was responding to yesterday’s front page Sunday Guardian headlined Our Lawless State—an editorial

He said after he read the contents “it was sad but it made me smile. And I realised, well it is an opinion.”

Hinds then responded stating that he did not think that T&T was a failed State, as the courts are still operational, school functioned as normal and the media were still free to ask the Government questions

He said,”If you want to know what is a failed State you need to go seven miles away from Venezuela.”

Speaking at his constituency sports and family day in Laventille, Hinds asked if the people who had attended the event seemed to be suffering, hungry and wearing tattered clothes

“This is far from a failed State. And those who try to put a brand as a failed State on us they are doing this country a serious injustice. I reject it. Those who are calling it a failed State is doing us a grave injustice. And the ship of State is sailing beautifully…smoothly on.”

The editorial also called on Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to again address the nation on the issue of crime

A few weeks ago, Hinds said National Security Minister Stuart Young held a press conference with divisional heads of security to outline some of their crime fighting measures

“And when he (Young) was finished I saw an editorial in the same newspapers that he brought no comfort,” he said

Hinds said he too was chastised by the T&T Guardian after he spoke about crime

“But now they want the Prime Minister to talk. But talk is not the solution. This is about police work which the commissioner we appointed is doing.”

Hinds said the Government has been dealing with the crime problem assiduously. He warned criminals elements who have been causing stress and grief to innocent citizens that their days are numbered and they will “get you.”
